It's a Slow News Day

The Colts beat up the Giants 34-14 last night. It was an impressive performance, especially by the Colts defense, which bounced back after allowing something like 500 yards rushing to Houston in week one.

You'd think the talk around Indianapolis today would be about the big win. And for the most part, you'd be right--unless you've been watching WXIN-TV (the Indianapolis Fox affiliate) this evening. If you had, you'd think the most important news story of the day is about Brandon Jacobs' helmet and the fan who caught it:

In case you missed it, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs either accidentally (or not) threw his helmet into the stands at Lucas Oil stadium. Sure, that's an interesting fact about the game, but having the fan who caught the wayward helmet as your lead story on your website and on your late night newscast is the very definition of a slow news day. During prime time programming, Fox59 has run two promos for the 10pm newscast, and the "fan speaking out" story has received top billing.

Who says local television stations can't do hard news?
