Let me see if I get this straight.
ESPN spends $1000000000000000000000000000 covering every sport. They send 34 air personalities to do the pregame of "Monday Night Football." They have been on the cutting edge of sports broadcasting technology for a long time.
Yet--a college basketball conference championship game involving a top-12 team is not worthy of broadcasting in HD. Not that this is a new issue, but seriously? In 2010? I mean, I'm not talking about ESPN-8, "The Ocho," but the main fucking channel. The big one.
For the love of fuck, the commercials are even in HD, just not the game. Thank you, ESPN, for confirming that you have as little respect for the mid-major conferences as the NCAA selection committee.
(Of course, ESPN touts "Championship Week" and hypes having all the conference tournament games, but only shows BCS-conference games in HD.)

The Summit League Conference Championsip was also not in HD. I know they were in BFE South Dakota, but there is no excuse to not show these championship games in non-HD.
If you want to go with the excuse of EPSN has only so many HD TV units and there are too many conference games to be at. Fine, that may be a valid excuse...for the Summit League game. But the Big Ten Women's tournament was last weekend and the Men's tournament starts Thursday and we know THAT will be in HD. So why couldn't ESPN drive the 6 miles over to Hinkle Fieldhouse? They're a bunch of fucktards, that's why!
The "we don't have enough HD equipment" excuse might have flown 5 years ago, but with the prevalence of HD now and the fact that ESPN spends gazillions of dollars, no way. I'd even give them some benefit of the doubt if it was on ESPNU, but the main network? No.
I agree, I just don't know how many "units" they have. But you are correct, there is no excuse not to have enough, even if you need to borrow from the rest of the "family" - Disney, ABC, etc.
Even if it was a matter of manpower, I would think they would/should consider this Hell Week and just get it done!
