Black Sunday
We here at LomHenn.com are trying something a little different. We've decided to do live posts during the Super Bowl. We are anxiously awaiting the start of this years facade that is a "Championship" game. As always, the media have already given us plenty of fodder. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. I know we will!!!

Since I'm "The Football Guy", I need to get this going first.
Three experts in the pregame...Tony Dungy, Mike Holmgren and Matt Millen...
Well...two out of three ain't bad!
I think it's terrible you don't see Tony Dungy as an expert.
I have a pre-pregame comment. I just KNOW the National Anthem is going to suck. NOT the song mind you, but the "performer". Cause after all...it IS about the singer, right? NOT!
No Boa on Brenda Warner tonight!!
Jennifer Hudson has a great voice. Unfortunately, she will probably try to show us how great her voice is, instead of just singing the song.
2:10 w/o the music. I've heard worse--she held fairly true to the song, for the most part.
I meant 2:10 not counting the music.
OK, so it wasn't horrible. I've heard a LOT worse. Still, it was a little showey towards the end, but not miserable. I stand corrected.
What's the over/under on Brenda Warner camera shots? I'll put it at 9 and a half.
We're at one so far--which came when Kurt was announced as the Walter Payton award winner.
Hey John Elway--why the long face?
She's cute, but where did they get this girl? Deadpan commentary...nice touch!
F. Scott Fitzgerald?????? Fuck the heck? Alex Flanagan, you're trying too hard.
And who is Alex Flanagan, anyway?
Rackers? Nearly killer her.
That's supposed to be "killed".
Was that Omar Epps on the sideline?
I believe it was. He must have gotten a leave of absence from the "House" set.
Great camera angle from NBC on the goaline--I hope other networks start doing that.
Your lineman can't tackle you into the endzone can he?
I don't think they can overturn it, but I think that should have been a penalty on the Steelers' offensive lineman for grabbing Big Ben and taking him into the end zone.
Have you ever seen a 0ne-foot line?
Ouch...right in the baby maker!
No such thing as a one-foot line.
I was happy to see Arizona hold the Steelers to a FG. It was wise to challenge the TD call.
By the way, on the lineman-assist thing, this is from the nfl.com rulebook:
No player on offense may assist a runner except by blocking for him.
Should have been a penalty--though I'm sure the Steelers still would have gotten a FG. It would have saved a challenege for Arizona, though.
Also, why didn't Madden and Michaels catch that?
Kringlebert, I KNOW you can't wait for that new Fast and Furious movie!
OMG...grease monkey jihad!
It begins.
Start of 2nd quarter-Pittsburgh 3, Arizona 0.
Okay--grease monkey jihad is pretty funny.
It must be the next step after the Space Monkey Jihad.
You bad, bad bird!
So far, Budweiser is 0 for 2. And they used to be so good.
EDGE--deftly avoiding Polamalu Missle.
Nice catch by Breaston...or Puntalabo-son.
Even BETTER catch by Patrick!!! Touchdown!!!
Stellar catch! Nice job Patrick.
That's two interceptions Warren-Cromartie could have now.
HA!! I meant Rogers-Cromartie. Warren Cromartie was a baseball player long ago.
Perhaps I am a fucktard.
Nice punt return by Puntalabo-son.
Great "Broken Wings" reference in the baby commercial!
Was Dick LaBeau in Stalag 13 with Hogan?
You can play with a torn biceps. With torn triceps--you're out for the season.
Oh good. MORE Matt Millen at the half. Wow, I can't wait!
Matt Millen is the greatest! He was the brilliant architect of the Detroit Lions! He's the reason they are the team they are today.
A 99 yard interception return...that might be a killer.
B-i-g HUGE interception and return for a TD--what a game-changer!!
Interesting end to the first half.
Alex's first question to Wisenhunt was a GREAT one, huh?
Alex: "What happened on the interception at the end of the half?"
Wisenhunt: "Obviously, it was a bad throw."
PROBING questions!!
The lizards should have stuck with Thriller.
Yes, let's ask the genious of the the Detroit Lions potent offense what the Cardinals should do in the second half.
I think the replay review ended up with the right call, but Al Michaels seems to not understand it at all. Michaels kept saying that it wasn't a touchdown because "the ball was on Fitzgerald's leg, then it hit the ground." That's irrelevant! One angle showed that Harrison's elbow hit the ground before the rest of his body (namely his shoulders and head), and it looked that maybe the ball wasn't in yet. Again, I'm not sure it wasn't across the goal line, so not overturning the call on the field was the right call, IMHO.
The point is--and Michaels should learn this--t's where the BALL is when the runner's knee or elbow is down. When the ball hits the ground is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT.
Clarence Clemons: MORE COWBELL!
Evidently the Boss is going to California right after the gig...he said he was "going to Disneyland."
Why he wouldn't just head over to Orlando from Tampa--who knows.
LOVE the Shatner impression. Nice Priceline.com ad.
Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s character didn't play in the Super Bowl in Jerry McGuire...
I hate the facemask rule--that the ball carrier is exempt from a face mask call. That rule should be changed.
The roughing the passer call was kinda weak--I'm not sure that warranted a penalty.
Also, why wasn't Big Ben called for intentional grounding? I don't think he was outside the tackle box.
I don't think a full bottle of Coke would float in a river.
I'm just saying.
Steve Perry....Steve Perry...Steve Perry...You should've been gooone!
Damn!
Steelers 20, Cardinals 7. At least they are still within 2 TDs.
Brenda Warner sighting!!!
That's #2 on the night.
Mrs. Bembledack tested the Coke theory and the myth has been busted! A full Coke in a glass bottle will sink in a tub of water.
The Brenda Warner sighting count won;t get to 10 unless the game gets closer.
Mrs. Bembledack rocks!!!!
Now get me a snow cone, bitch!
Great--Dave Calabro will be live from the Super Bowl for Channel 13 in Indianapolis after the game!! I wonder what insight he will give that hasn't already been discussed?
Oh yeah--not a goddamn thing.
I miss the oven mitt commercials for Arby's.
Amen, brother. All of the commercials since then have sucked.
The NFL Pro Bowl - is it the most worthless all-star game? - tonight on Channel 13.
Celebrity Apprentice???? With Joan Fucking Rivers????
No wonder network TV ratings suck.
John - it wasn't the bumps, it was the holding of the jersey!
Yes...the Pro Bowl is worthless. They might as well make it no contact touch football.
The jersey-tug was pretty slight, but he did it.
Arizona can't get away with anything tonight.
Rothlisberger is sacked - finally!
Hadn't seen the Polamulu Coke commercial--funny!!
Yes, Arizona cannot catch a break. Everytime they seem to make a play - they get flagged.
Great Cash4Gold commercial, too!
I miss MC Hammer.
If you haven't figured it out by now, Kringlebert has been holding Hildegard and I have had the chance to comment in the second half.
The pass goes to J.J. Arrington their "third-down" back on second down. Thanks, John!
Wow...a penalty on the Steelers!!
Wow...a penalty on the Steelers!!
The Cards are driving. A TD would make this a 'game'.
Definitely. It would be nice to have some drama in this game.
GREAT CATCH LARRY FITZGERALD!! Cards have some life!
The Cards will get the ball back with 6+ minutes remaining.
I would like to see them score with :08 seconds left to go.
The Cards will get the ball back with 5+ minutes remaining.
I would like to see them score with :08 seconds left to go.
That would be sweet.
The Pepsi marketing people are definitely on drugs, after seeing that "MacGruber" commercial.
Though having McGuyver in it was pretty funny.
Calm down people. Stop fighting on the sidelines!
Wow - it actually goes against the Steelers! The momentum may be swinging to the Cardinals.
Troy - I don't think you can complain about the officials at this point. - Slut
Gandy is having a tough night.
That's three Brenda Warner sightings.
Yeah--I did say that to Troy, didn't I?
Not that the officiating has been terrible, but the Cards hadn't caught a break all night.
I'm having a Peyton Manning flashback. Don't stop what has been working for you.
That was an exceptionally dumb penalty by Harrison. And I agree with John--Harrison should have been ejected.
WOW!!! WHAT A HUGE CALL!!
Arizona has life!!
Brenda Warner sighting #4!!
TOUCHDOWN CARDINALS - Fitzgerald catches the ball over the middle and is gone! Hahahahahahahahahaha!
LARRY FITZGERALD IS THE MAN!!!!
I just hope they didn't leave too much time on the clock. But you can't fault them for at least getting the score.
It's interesting that now the Steelers can't get away with anything.
2:00 left--plenty of time to get at least a FG.
Gah--1:01 to go...
Will the game come down to a Steve Perry psyche-out?
Doesn't look like it--Pittsburgh will probably win outright.
Will somebody just glue themselves to Holmes?
How was he in??? BOOTH REVIEW for sure!
Fuck!
Fuck!
Definitely a catch, sadly. GREAT catch, though.
The Cardinals need a miracle to pull this one out.
The arm was coming forward it seems on the pass.
Warner's arm wasn't coming forward?
OMG - they didn't review that play!!!!!!!!!
Well, at lease you would have won if you took the Cardinals and the points.
No fucking review???? Even if there's no overturned call, how can you not review that play??
The ball was starting to move before Warner got rid of it, but he provided the impetus on the ball to move it forward--that should have been an incomplete pass. At the VERY least, you have to review it.
Final call probably didn't matter to the outcome, though.
In any case, great game. Gotta hand it to the Steelers--they made the plays to win.
Pittsburgh did enough to win the game, but I am still shocked that the officials didn't review the play at the end of the game.
I know that a Hail Mary probably would have failed, but the Cards still should have had that shot.
Kringlebert quote - "if they don't give Santonio Holmes the MVP, then that is a travesty."
The Denny's "Nanerpuss" commercial is VERY CREEPY.
Roger Goodell won't ever be confused with Martin Luther King in the public speaking category.
I wonder if Omar Epps will bring the Lombardi Trophy and his Super Bowl ring to the set of "House."
Did Dan Patrick prematurely call Santonio Holmes the Super Bowl 43 MVP? Should he have waited for the presentation?
I mean, Holmes deserves it for sure, but normally there's a sponsored presentation. Maybe not.
Matt Millen=no worthwhile commentary, completely worthless post-game comments. Of course, he did give the shameless NFL suck-up.
We were getting ready to sign-off but we are waiting on the interview with Kurt Warner.
Alex with Kurt Warner--do you want to try to make it back to a Super Bowl?
Really? What the fuck kind of question was that??
Now we can sign off.
Thanks for joining us as we made history tonight--the first ever LomHenn.com live blog!
Congrats to the Steelers for the win and the Cardinals for a great season.
Great job, guys. Lots of fun reading.
Now back to work on my book about gynecological plastic surgery.
